Using a solar powered mosquito repellent unit to rid an area of unwanted insects that fly at night is certainly much safer than some alternatives. For instance, citronella candles might do a good job of warding off the bugs, but they also create a fire hazard because of their open flame.

There are different types of solar units that will repell mosquitos. If you want a unit that won’t require maintenance, they are several that zap the bugs with a charge from the light inside the unit. Some people claim that units with a black light (purple bulb) do a better job at attracting the insects than units with other colored bulbs.

If you don’t mind doing a little maintenance on the mosquito repeller occasionally, you can purchase one that uses scent cartridges. The scent from the linalool that they contain masks the scent of humans. However, the scent cartridges do need to be replaced periodically.
