Two thousand foot high cliffs surround the Crater, which is home to over 13000 herd animals. The Crater is also home to the highest density of large carnivores in Africa. 18 year old Msaka is the Craters oldest lioness and leads the large Lakette pride. Faced with a food shortage, their chief huntress disappears to seek out sustenance for them all. Weakened, they now face an even greater threat from four nomadic male lions preparing to attack and claim the pride and its fertile lionesses. To reach them though, the usurping males need to get through. The prides lead male has guarded them for five years but, at the age of eight, hes almost p ast his prime. Against their combined strength and determination, will he be able to protect the pride? If he doesnt repel the challengers, it could spell bloodshed for the young cubs who are often the first victims once a victorious male moves in to father his own litters.
